Project Description

One week of innovation at the TU Braunschweig campus

The Entrepreneurship Summer School is an event meant to introduce the participants to entrepreneurship and startup culture in a concentrated way. What is a business idea? How can business ideas be worked out and developed into a solid market-economy concept? What are the skills and attitudes of entrepreneurs and how do they apply them in everyday life? The founding process is examined from A to Z in a practical way within the framework of the school. Before and at the beginning of the event, the participants consider which ideas they would like to convert into a business model and form teams together in order to work out this idea intensively and practically for a whole week.

Writing a business plan motivates the students to continue their startup project afterwards. We aim to our events the character of a case study character without any practical potential. In order to emphasize this, we provide relevant knowledge right in the first half of the day.
Participants are given the opportunity to gain insights into topics such as leadership, marketing, negotiation techniques, capital raising and investor search, creativity techniques as well as law and patent protection. In the second half, the participants can work with their teams on their business models using real data.

Direct field reports and know-how from practice

We give our participants access to real life experience presented by successful founders and entrepreneurs, which goes far beyond specialized theoretical knowledge. How does it feel to start a business? What were the greatest individual hurdles? What satisfaction, learning and self-awareness do you achieve when setting up a startup? What are the key factors in choosing co-founders? Every semester we invite regional and national founders and entrepreneurs, who present their startups and companies and report from their own experiences. Questions can be asked and discussed with the speakers at any time.

  • Factual knowledge – knowledge and understanding of topics around the field of entrepreneurship. Micro- and macroeconomic effects of startups. Detailed and practice-oriented excursions into various fields relevant to founding a company.
  • Methodological knowledge – Independent analysis, evaluation and optimization of specialist questions concerning business model development. converting your own ideas into marketable concepts using established tools. Learning and training skills from the startup environment, such as pitching.
  • Transfer competence – communicative competence and persuasiveness, the ability to cooperate and work in a team, discussion of general and current topics relating to entrepreneurship. Use of theoretical knowledge and methods to develop individual foundation concepts. Possible team building for a startup project after the event.

The organisational procedure and the examination modalities can be found in the menu items on this page. The event is supervised and organized by Stud.IP.
After the event, students will have the opportunity to get advice on their business concept from the Entrepreneurship Hub’s founder coaching. In addition, the teams have the opportunity to work on and further develop their business ideas in the Co-Working Space of the Entrepreneurship Hub at Ostfalia University. We provide the necessary infrastructure for this. They also have the opportunity to exchange information with the startups on site at any given time.

Examination modalities

During the course, students will work in teams on a business idea they already have or generate in a team. During the one-week course, they will then use the methods they have learned to write it down and transform it into a business model including a business plan and then present it to a jury of experts. The quality of the pitch presentation is part of the overall score, but the awarding and placement by the jury has no influence on the evaluation.
The exact tasks as well as the schedule of the event will be handed over at the beginning of the event. With the exception of the group work phases beginning on 3pm, attendance is compulsory for the entire duration of the event.

Percentages of the overall grade
15% attendance
35% Pitch
50% Written elaboration of the business plan

The examination must be performed in a group of at least 4-5 people. No individual presentations! Developing a prototype can be advantageous for the evaluation.

Please take the presentation and submission deadlines into account in the schedule. These must be strictly adhered to.

  • Are individual performances also possible?
    • Answer: In reality, startup projects are usually carried out in teams, which also increases the chances of success. Since the event should be oriented as much as possible to real conditions, individual services are unfortunately not possible.
  • Are there any restrictions regarding the founding ideas?
    • Answer: No, there are no limits to creativity. Both product and service ideas can be conceived. In the sense of entrepreneurship, however, a certain degree of innovation of the ideas is necessary.
  • Is the Entrepreneurship Spring School part of an elective module or can it function as part of a module together with Technology Entrepreneurship or Technology Business Model Creation?
    • Answer: No. The Entrepreneurship Spring School is an independent block event and can be introduced either as an additional subject or as an optional subject for the non-technical area.
