We stand up for establishing a better startup culture in the region.
The Entrepreneurship Hub supports students, alumni and research assistants of Ostfalia University, TU Braunschweig and HBK Braunschweig willing to start their own businesses. We aim to give them the opportunity to launch a business as a rewarding and fulfilling career option and to create a lively startup culture in the region.
The Entrepreneurship Hub offers an extensive range of teaching and information for both founders and those interested in starting a business at all three universities. Students, alumni and academic staff of Ostfalia can also profit from individual coaching in the Entrepreneurship Hub, free office space in the startup incubator, support in raising startup capital and furthermore benefit from our excellent network. Students and members of the TU Braunschweig are offered a similar service at the Technology Transfer Office of the TU Braunschweig, with which we closely cooperate. As for students and members of the HBK Braunschweig, the Career Service of the HBK offers them individual support.
The history of the Entrepreneurship Hub dates back to the cooperation agreement between Ostfalia University and Braunschweig Technical University established on 30 August 2007. This agreement aims to promote startups from both universities and to establish a sustainable startup culture in our region. As a basis of this new cooperation, a joint “Endowed Chair for Entrepreneurship” was established in order to inspire as many students, alumni and academic staff as possible to found a company and to convey them the knowledge they require. The two universities have also succeeded in gaining partners from the region willing to support our professorship financially.
On March 1, 2009, Prof. Dr. Reza Asghari, an IT business engineer and entrepreneur, was appointed to the endowed professorship. He and his team made an effort to establish Entrepreneurship Center at Ostfalia and the Chair of Entrepreneurship at the TU Braunschweig aiming to develop an entrepreneurship culture at both universities. In 2011, the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology awarded Ostfalia University cooperating with TU Braunschweig as one of the ten universities of excellence in the field of entrepreneurship and granted them considerable funding to further foster startups at both universities. In 2014, the endowed professorship was transformed into a permanent professorship.
We reached the next level in March 2018 when the Center was refounded as a new institute at the TU Braunschweig. We are aware we must constantly improve ourselves in order to maintain an attractive service for students, alumni, scientists and people interested in founding a company. We took the legal and organizational transformations as an opportunity to harmonize the way we present our institution: Thus, in April 2018, the Entrepreneurship Center and the Chair of Entrepreneurship turned into the joint Entrepreneurship Hub of Ostfalia University and TU Braunschweig.
Our mission has not changed: We are committed to strengthening and promoting a lively and interdisciplinary founding culture in our region. We will expand our research scope, involving the academic sector even more closely to promote spin-offs from our universities. We convey know-how and techniques concerning business model development and the establishment of innovative enterprises, thus enabling our coaches to become active. Extra-curricular events and workshops give us the opportunity to link the company with the regional and national startup community.
This is key for the region, as startups and university spin-offs create important links between science and industry, which in turn enhance regional employment rates, promote innovation and contribute to overall economic and social improvements.
